This is not an issue with SANE but with your local configuration in
udev or your kernel (as the comment by Ron Murray suggests). You are
not using a Debian stock kernel as it seems (Kernel: Linux
2.6.39.3-00001-g3e08e21 (SMP w/2 CPU cores)), so I am closing this bug
report as invalid.

Please feel free to re-open the bug if the problem actually still
persists. In that case, please mention the exact make and model of
your scanner and provide the USB-IDs (these might be missing in the
udev rules file for SANE).
