Response from upstream:

----------
Unfortunately nip2 will be stuck on goffice-0.8 for a while: it's the
last goffice that works with gtk2 programs. I hope I have that correct.

I do hope to rewrite nip2 for gtk3 at some point, but the vips rewrite
needs to be done first. Perhaps in a year or two.
----------

Other options have been suggested such as dumping goffice in favor of
some other alternatives.

As far as nip2 in debian is concerned, if we decide that what goffice
adds to nip2, I can drop the dependency since nip2 will still work
without it. I don't really like that option though. From upstream:

----------
goffice is used for graphing. For example, click Histogram / New / Tone
Curve, then drag "shadow adjust".

Or load an image, open an image view window, hold CTRL and drag up and
left to mark a line, then click Histogram / Plot Slice. You can drag the
line and the plot will animate.
----------

Anyway, if upstream's timeframe is as stated, it will still happen
before jesse.

In light of the fact that there is no good way for me to get rid of the
nip2 dependency on goffice-0.8, I will probably not upload a new version
until wheezy is released unless I am told to drop the goffice dependency
entirely.
