I'm planning to add your patch (thanks!) in my next upload of approx. The maintainer scripts currently have to deal with inetd.conf, since there's a debconf preference for the approx port.
I'll have to detect a systemd installation and handle that differently, including setting the port in the approx.socket file somehow.
