Package: pure-ftpd
Version: 1.0.36-1.1
Severity: important

Hello all,

my customers are complaining that they cannot use FTP server here and get
this message:

> 421 5 users (the maximum) are already logged in, sorry

This is strange because I set the maximum users to 50 (which is also the
default value of pure-ftpd) by putting a 50 into this file:

> /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/MaxClientsNumber

Also I set PerUserLimit to 10 50 in this file when the above setting did
not work:

> /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/PerUserLimits

I cannot say if the second thing is doing anything because the binary needs
to be compiled with a special option, according to the pure-ftpd manual.

BTW: When I restart pure-ftpd I get the following output:

> Restarting ftp server: Running: /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd-mysql-virtualchroot
> -l mysql:/etc/pure-ftpd/db/mysql.conf -p 2267:2276 -8 cp1252 -C 10 -w -Y
> 1 -L 5000:500 -A -y 10:50 -O clf:/var/log/pure-ftpd/transfer.log -u 1000
> -c 50 -b -E -D -B

As -c is the maximum user value, it is set correctly.

Why isn't it used and where is the value 5 coming from?

I set the severity to important as a 5 maximum users setting is not working
in production environment anyhow.

Cheers,
Martin
