You're right, it is still not there (at least in -rc5 version). Well, my idea was to keep this bug open until Bas Zoetekouw confirms me hddtemp is working correctly with the kernel patch. Actually SATA is well supported by hddtemp. You could try to reassign it to the kernel package, but I doubt the kernel team will add some "random patches" to the kernel tree, even if the pass-thru patch is working correctly for months now.
