Since PEP 394 ( http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0394/ ) suggests the use of python2 and python3 in shebangs, I think Debian should ship a /usr/bin/python2 binary. Currently, the only way to ensure Python 2 scripts will work cross-platform without having to change the shebang is to hardcode python2.7.
