You will have to re-apply the change (-Dsun.java2d.xrender=True) to /usr/bin/freeplane (see above). Do you refer to 1.3.x vs 1.2.x or 1.2.x vs 1.1.x? Anyway, IMHO this is the price for high level java programming and a rich feature set.
