The shell-based greeter also has its own problems, different in both cause and effets. Indeed disable-user-list=true does not work in Wheezy's version, it is simply ignored (but it works in experimental). I have tried to backport the relevant commits from 3.8 to 3.4, but it turned out to be non trivial, so I gave up. This is tracked in Debian BTS as #685105. -- .''`.
