I haven't had time to update unstable since the last release. You are,
however, using a rather old version of gscan2pdf, and have been bitten
by a combination of bugs where the backend doesn't put as much data in
the .pnm files as the header reports, and gscan2pdf then sits waiting
for the extra data.

If you start gscan2pdf from the command line with the --log=log
option, reproduce the problem, and post the log file, I can confirm.
In the mean time, please try a .deb from the website or the ppa.

I am getting close to a 1.2.0 release (probably a couple of weeks),
and will update unstable when I release.
