Hi,

With version 0.4, FireTray now displays nice Icedove icon when there are
no new messages. However, when a message arrives, instead of displaying
the count, the icon becomes a red "X" on the white background.

I'm using KDE 4.8. This reproduces everytime.
I just installed KDE 4.8 on a Wheezy host (seems like it’s the same
version in Jessie)

Indeed
, but I’m not able to reproduce it (nor with GNOME or
Awesome). Can you please provide a way to actually reproduce it, or at
least some logs?

Thanks, and thank you Sascha. I tried to reproduce with a different user on the
same system which had never run Icedove. I couldn't reproduce, but I also
didn't manage to get FireTray to work. The icon stayed the same when new mail
arrived. In my view, this is worst, since at least the red cross constitutes a
visible change, just an ugly one.

I compared the preferences and noticed one important difference in the Mail notification type preferences. My user has
"display newmail icon", while the other user had "display new message count". But after setting the
other user to "new messages" count type and display newmail icon too, the behavior for the other user didn't
change. The Icedove icon remains unaffected by new mail. I checked all preferences (Windows, Icon and Mail), and they
are all the same except for Included accounts. My user has more "accounts" there (folders, actually), even
though both users query the same mail account, but FireTray doesn't allow to control which accounts show.

I suspect something is wrong in the icons defined for newmail icon. However, I
have no idea what these mean. There's certainly a usability bug here, I can
change the strings, but I have no idea what they refer to.

What happens for you? Is the tray showing a message count? Do you have
different settings?

As I said, I didn't see any error/warning regarding that issue. There are no
Errors nor Warnings in Icedove's console. As someone else reported, Messages is
spammed by loads of FireTray messages, so it's hard to say, but nothing wrong
jumps to my eyes.

This happened with Icedove 10, before I tried upgrading to 17.
