This means some package in your system is using an absolute path
to update-alternatives, which is wrong and should be fixed. A bit
more context would help here to diagnose where the actual problem
is, so that the bug report can be reassigned to the correct place.

Otherwise I'll be closing it as this has been a planned change for
some time now, and not a problem with dpkg itself.
