yes, I still have this issue with version 3.8.3-4 I found that others people have this problem and they have found that the cause are gedit plugins. For example take a look at this Ubuntu bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1173705 but I don't know how to try disabling gnome plugins. In the gedit menu there is no anymore the Preferences option.
