There is a reason to put it separately. I think it doesn't mess with gcc because libfakeroot.so or libfakechroot.so are not intended to linking by compile time. I'm afraid that such shared library in standard directory would also violate the Debian Policy because it hadn't proper symlink (libfakeroot.so.0 or something) and archive file (libfakechroot.a). -- .''`.
