Package: nvidia-glx
Version: 1.0.7676-1
Severity: important

Ever since I upgraded to Xorg X server (sometime in the early summer),
I have been unable to use nvidia-glx because it makes X server die
from SIGSEGV very often. Xorg's nv module works, but does not give me
OpenGL which is desperately desired. (Try interactively rotating
half-gigabyte datasets without hw accel...)

I managed to finally pin down the problem to three sources:
ttf-bitstream-vera, ttf-bitstream-dejavu and tv-fonts. Any one of
these fonts, when used with iso10646-1 encoding causes X to sigsegv. I
removed these fonts, and I haven't seen a single sigsegv since. The
problem is, all the other iso10646-1 monospace fonts - except the
bitstreams - are unreadable at sizes (ptSz) below 160 or so. Thus I
have a choice: able to read reasonably sized text or able to visualise
the datasets, but not both. The bad thing is I need to do both. Going
to iso8859-15 is not viable since many programs give crappy output
when continually switching back and forth between 8859-15 and 10646-1;
the rest of our machines use unicode and there is frequent data
transfers between them.

I filed this against the version in experimental since it seemed one
of the bugs mentioned on NVidia's forums could have been the cause of
my segfaults and it was fixed in 1.0-7676, but my segfaults
persist. It's definitely present in the unstable and testing versions
as well.
