I have posted there a workaround for this bug; does it work for you?

I have also had this problem. From what I understand, though, it is not
a bug in this version, but in the old one (1.6.1-6), which prevents the
old version from being uninstalled. In that case, I think it is the same
as this bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=732579
