The odd thing is that this AMD64 system is replacing an Alpha 64-bit system that had absolutely no trouble with this. I discovered a further improvement today. The 64-bit environment had amanda-client and amanda-server installed. Now I have removed amanda-client and amanda-server entirely from the server and I can run (using dchroot) amanda successfully as long as I do not try to backup any files from the 64-bit server. My next test will include the 64-bit server in the backup by adding amanda-client back to the 64-bit side. It seems I can get it to all work if I have amanda-client on the 64-bit side and amanda-server on the 32-bit side. But, if this bug is fixed, all would be in the 64-bit side.
