I believe this report is correct, i am having the same problem. The issue here is that the nvidia xrandr provider does not have "cap: 0x1, Source Output"

slink@haggis:~$ xrandr --listproviders
Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x32e cap: 0x0 crtcs: 4 outputs: 2 associated providers: 0 name:NVIDIA-0 Provider 1: id: 0x48 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 3 outputs: 6 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting

I do not yet understand why this is happening.

This is on a lenovo thinkpad w540 with nvidia K2100M.

root@haggis:~# uname -a
Linux haggis 3.13-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.13-1~exp1 (2014-01-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux

also reproduced on 3.12-1

nvidia driver 331.38 and 319.76

This thread has good coverage of the topic: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7413808.html
