Package: installation-reports Severity: important Debian-installer-version: etch beta 1 uname -a: actually could not install boot loader, failed installation Date: Nov 15 2005 Method: netinst iso
Machine: Apple PowerMac7,3 (Dual G5) Processor: G5 Memory: 512 MB Root Device: /dev/sda7 Root Size/partition table: <single 4G on /dev/sda7> Output of lspci and lspci -n: <not relevant - will post on request> Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [E] Reboot: [E] Comments/Problems: It seems ofboot does not work with the /proc/devices-tree in the 2.6.12 and later kernels for SCSI devices at least (it works fine with the smp 2.6.8 power4 kernel in sarge). As a result the installation of the boot loader currently fails and the system does not reboot correctly. It seems that this problem is fixed in the version of yaboot in sid (see #321962) but it is stuck there (seemingly due to an RC bug?). I believe this problem should show up on all NewWorld Macs with SCSI disks???? However, I did not see it reported anywhere else (but there are so *many* installation reports!). Otherwise the installer works great ;-) Cheers! Shyamal -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
