Hi, I looked at bringing this into Ubuntu ahead of Debian (and submit my work here), though it looks like I need to defer this for now. I hope some of my investigation is useful to anybody else who takes this up.
Sergei's branch was very helpful to me - thank you! I intended to pull in your commits to Ubuntu had I finished this, but I didn't get that far. I also noticed that from current git HEAD I had to change override_dh_fixperms to override_dh_fixperms-indep, since etc/freeipmi/freeipmi.conf is only available when building arch-dependent packages.
