"--bridge=none " indeed fixes the behavior. This particular notation is somewhat in contradiction to the documentation, where

$ docker.io --help
Usage of docker.io:
  ...
-b, --bridge="": Attach containers to a pre-existing network bridge; use 'none' to disable container networking
  ...

there's definitely "s there ...

Not sure whether that's a docker, or a debian-specific (/etc/default/docker.io-parsing) bug.
