Tested here, and it solves the problem. Thank you. You probably know the following, but installing auctex gives the following:
$ dpkg -i /home/sanjoy/admin/auctex/auctex_11.87-1.1_all.deb /home/sanjoy/admin/auctex/preview-latex-style_11.87-1.1_all.deb ... Setting up auctex (11.87-1.1) ... ERROR: auctex is broken - called emacs-package-install as a new-style add-on, but has no compat file. ...
