the workaround maks suggested works well, but you have to adjust all your scripts. If you want a global solution you can adjust your matplotlibrc (/etc/matplotlibrc or ~/.config/matplotlib/matplotlibrc) with
backend : GTK or other backends like GTK3Cairo (which i'm using now). A sample configuration and all possible backends can be found here: http://matplotlib.org/users/customizing.html Best wishes Michael
