Shouldn't this option be used by default? About a year ago the dot

No, it should not. LIST -a option is not necessary supported by ftp server.
The option was not ever enabled by default. Probably you accessed a server
which showed dot-files by default, without -a option.
Ok, thank you for information and sorry for inconvenience. This bug may
be closed.
Nevertheless:
1. would it be possible to check if the server allows -a, and use it in
this case?
2. would it be possible to add this information to the man page, at the
mirror option? I think this is very important, and it should appear in
the mirror information page (man page). (Personnally, I didn't even
thought that dot files are not taken into account.)
