Yes, that explains observed behavior. I started browsing before minidlna finished scanning, and thought high load was related to scanning process.
Recent version I've tried (1.1.2+dfsg-1.1) works very well, I can't reproduce any issues I was reporting in the original message anymore. The issue is fixed. Thank you! --- Rinat
