Hi, The unability to compile this package is a problem for ports being added recently (OpenRISC/or1k, ppc64el, ...) since they don't have older versions to rely on, and many packages depend on them as build-dependencies to compile, so this package (among many others) is blocking a good portion of the archive to compile cleanly for these ports.
It would be better if the maintainer takes care of doing these changes to the package, since you/they might be aware of nuances that people porting might miss. If I get it to work, I will prepare a NMU (diff attached) to fix the bug above (see headers), to upload to DELAYED as per guidelines in [1] -- since this package is needed to compile many other packages, the bug is open for several months and didn't receive any update from the maintainers (and there are other bugs open for years without any recent activity), and the changes should not affect the behaviour of the package in the other architectures. [1] http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#nmu I could not prepare it at the moment since the patch of autotools seems to interfere in some way, and the patch proposed by the original submitter did not work straight away in my system (with pbuilder/cowbuilder).
