Package: vlc Version: 2.1.5-1 Architecture: i386 To reproduce: 1. Play any video in vlc 2. Pause playback 3. (optional) iconify VLC 4. xset dpms force off 5. Wait about 30 seconds
Expected: Screen stays off indefinitely Observed: Screen unblanks in less than a minute If VLC is not running, or is stopped, this doesn't happen. (I know that VLC causes this and other X applications I have tested do not, but it's possible it's am X server bug in response to some message that's not supposed to unblank the screen.) Given that "xset dpms force off" is essentially what the default laptop lid-close script does, the fact that the backlight comes back on is rather annoying. It achieves nothing but draining the battery and wearing out the backlight, This is an up-to-date Debian unstable i386 machine, using Intel 945 integrated graphics with the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver. This might be related to my earlier bug about vlc keeping busy during pause, but I'm not sure so I'm submitting them as two spearate issues.
