I did some quick and uninformed research, and found that libgcrypt has support for the HMAC_MD5 algorithm nowadays (in git since about end of 2013, IIRC). Is that something that Mike Miller's code could employ to implement MD5-CRAM authentication with libgcyrpt-based versions of gnutls?
