Hi Pedro, I agree that an equivalent patch has been added to the upstream logger in version 2.25 of util-linux.
Where I tend to differ is that that version is only available right now in debian experimental. It will take years for that version to make it to stable. I tried Attila's patch and it works well. For all the current users of wheezy and future users of jessie, could it be possible to apply the patch? Not doing so means asking everyone to download and compile util-linux and apply the patch by hand if they need to use logger with an UDP remote server. Plus the time lost trying to understand then problem and find a solution. Having lived thru this last week, I know what I'm talking about. I hope my arguments help change this patching decision.
