I'm having language related problems too. They relate
to my use of an IM handler, atokx for japanese input.

My .gnomerc looks like this:

#!/bin/sh
export XMODIFIERS="@im=htt"
export USE_XOPENIM=t
. /usr/lib/im/locale/ja/atokserver/atokx_client

When I log in using a language other than japanese
(most of the time), kaffeine fails to start properly.
The window is created but nothing is painted beyond
initial shading around where buttons and tabs would
be.

This was never a problem in the past, so I wonder if
this has more than one source. I've restarted gnome
with ~/.kde ~/.gconf ~/.gnome2 ~/.local ~/.icons
~/.themes moved out of the way and still had the
problem but it only started recently and so could be
related to other upgrade parts of kde (dcop etc) but
doesn't effect other kde based apps.

It is easy for me to solve in .gnomerc but I thought
it was worth reporting. Could it als relate to the
use of key presses to disable xscreensaver mentioned
here?
