I can confirm this (on XFCE).A clumsy workaround seems to be to set fullscreen.screen in the rc file to 0 (rather than the default -1), but that has other problems, like putting the image on all virtual screens, and it also crashed on me eventually.
I didn't see any obvious commit that might have introduced this, but it's definitely a regression.
