Thanks for reporting. I had a look at that section of d/control and remembered that, at the time, I wanted something that could pull in all of the motif libraries for compatibility with packages from outside of Debian. Looking at it again now, it seems most (if not all) packages only use libxm4, so I think that whole block of Recommends are unnecessary and can be removed.
