Package: ipmitool
Version: 1.8.14-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

On my desktop, I use ipmitool purely as a client for accessing servers I
manage. The ipmitool package includes ipmievd, which seems to be
disabled by default, but there are still some kernel modules that get
loaded.

$ cat /usr/lib/modules-load.d/ipmievd.conf
# systemd kernelmodules for ipmitools
#
ipmi_devintf
ipmi_msghandler
ipmi_poweroff
ipmi_si
ipmi_watchdog

In particular, ipmi_si is not loading, apparently because my desktop
does not have the hardware for it, which is to be expected.

$ dmesg | grep ipmi_si | tail -n 1
[ 1917.269057] ipmi_si: Unable to find any System Interface(s)

The consequence of this is that systemd-modules-load.service fails to
complete.

I'm not familiar with ipmievd, but it seems like it should be in a
separate package from whatever provides /usr/bin/ipmitool, since the use
cases are so different.

As a workaround, I removed /usr/lib/modules-load.d/ipmievd.conf.

Thanks,
Corey
