I seem to have missed this somehow.

I don't think the -config interface is well defined.  In particular, I
don't think it's clear what flags can be included in foo-config output
and what cannot.
When including the -isystem patch, we evaluated and made sure all the
compilers in Debian could parse this output.

I actually think getting packages to build at high warning levels is a
significant benefit to the distribution, and so I'm not really open to
rolling back the change.

It's possible that we could accomplish this with a pragma in the header
files.  I'm not sure I'd be comfortable taking that patch for Jessie,
but if someone wanted to prepare a patch that used pragmas rather than
-isystem I'd review that patch and apply if it was reasonable.
