See the "Fake Cards" in Linaro's Flash Card Survey:

https://wiki.linaro.org/WorkingGroups/KernelArchived/Projects/FlashCardSurvey

Using cheap flash cards found in the checkout aisle of a MicroCenter
or at some flea market or street market really is false economy.

Buy a brand name card from a reputable vendor, with a credit card (so
you make sure you can get your money back if you get a fake / scammed
card), and then test it after you get it. In particular, I recommend
test its power fail resiliance, because even most SSD's are not power
fail protected[1].

Otherwise, you get what you pay for --- what's the value of your time,
and the value of your data if you save a few dollars on crappy flash?

Cheers,
