You're proposing that I use an epoch to forcibly downgrade all sid
users who have been using 5.5 bug-free for 2 months, breaking all
configuration and environment for those users (config is imported from
older versions, but not backwards from newer versions)?

That seems more than a little user-hostile.

Frankly, I'd rather have the fight about letting 5.5 migrate (it was
in the archive in early October, well before the freeze) than break an
unknown number of users' systems for pure housekeeping purposes.
