If I'm not mistaken, the one you need is actually gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad
which includes in the "Gstreamer-Decoders" section the "video/x-h264"
mime.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried installing both gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad and gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly. I'm afraid neither of them improve the situation. Youtube still reports H.264 as not supported.
