I also had this problem for a while now, but somehow never got around to reporting it.
I would like to add that if the system is booted with another OS in between hibernating and resuming Debian, one of the last frames from the other OS (in my case Windows 7) is displayed (although often at least partially distorted). In accordance with my expectations it shows a random image after the computer being powered off for a substantial amount of time, pointing towards the graphics hardware, especially its memory.
