I was unable to reproduce this on other etch or sid machines. I was consistently able to produce this bug on the machine that made me complain. It was a dual-k7 running etch. And it was a fresh install. However this machine has been replaced becacuse of other reliability problems, so I wouldn't be suprised if this were somehow uncovering a hardware error.
