Sorry for late reply, I missed this reply I fear. The permissions are simply 755. Otherwise I could not be able to start scli, could I? :) I wonder why I get a "permission denied", this is not what I'd expect. Anyway, apparently something has changed in the meantime, querying an Ubuntu-8.04 snmpd using scli under "testing" (I never removed the package) now works properly.
