According to the upstream bug report[0], this issue should be fixed for gtk as well in the new upstream version 9.0 (released on October 26th 2014).
Since this effectively disables the combined use of password managers and gpg-agent in GUI programs like icedove/enigmail, it breaks a rather common use case. The package in experimental fixes this issue for me, with no other problems so far (only tested -gtk2 and -curses). Thanks for your work on pinentry!
