Is it at all possible for this specific patch to get into Jessie on top of 3.12? I'm sure you'll agree it's an extremely minor change.
I think I set the priority too low on this bug, because it seriously impacts the usability of meld in Jessie. Unfortunately, a lot of real code also ends up with a mix of tabs and spaces (and for comment-formatting, it isn't uncommon either.) Most code-bases I work with use 4-space width tabs, this can make some code unreadable. Of course, I can always apply the patch locally, but it seems a shame to have this feature broken for the many people who will use Jessie.
