I can reliably reproduce this behaviour from sarge systems running a backport of mercurial 0.7-6 when connecting to one specific machine running current unstable. With another unstable machine I only see hangs when removing my .ssh directory, otherwise it works fine. So do connections unstable->unstable, unstable->sarge, sarge->sarge. Puzzled.
