The README file has in the mean time been converted to docbook, and thus your patch does not apply any more. I do not have too much clue about docbook, but Hilko might want to comment about how it it possible to cross-reference inside the generated HTML. That way, one could (a) cross-reference from the parts you want patched to the parts mentioning how to change macros, and (b) have a "quick navigation center" at the beginning of the document linking to most frequently asked information without having to change document structure too much.
