The reporter replied in #763043, stating that the proposed fix does not fix the problem at hand, but somehow I haven't seen his reply, and concluded the fix is right, and closed the bug while prematurely. And this also means the problem actually isn't fixed in jessie, which I hoped will be fixed there. Sigh. Yes you're exactly right, the mask I used is wrong.
