You can try yourself to change the Mplayer executable with mpv in the SMPlayer settings, as stated here [1]. Then SMPlayer will report the following error: /usr/bin/mpv -noquiet -nofs -nomouseinput [...] Error parsing option noquiet (option not found) Setting command line option '--noquiet=' failed. Exiting... (Fatal error) Latest versions of SMPlayer pass different options to mpv. Therefore a new version of SMPlayer has to be packaged in order to use mpv.
