I've rebased the feature branch (feature/bug770456) and included Stefan's fixes to --exec etc. I didn't include the start-stop-daemon exec rename workaround. Firstly because this is fixed in the kernel in Jessie and secondly because if we are to workaround the buggy kernels then I think we should be doing that everywhere (i.e. in start-stop-daemon) rather than in each individual initscript.
