The issue isn't that there were once packages outside the Debian repos, though that was part of it. The issue is that it isn't completely clear that a written offer saying "just get the bits from Debian" is adequate to meet the requirements of GPL v2. Thus, my advice to anyone building and delivering binary system images built from Debian packages has always been to either include all the source packages too, or create a source image of some kind that can be made available for download alongside the binary image. I have no idea how many, if any, of the folks I've given this advice to over the years have followed it. Bdale
