a GDB log is not very useful here as there is no segfault happen. But you can look at the activity of Icedove with some environment variables. https://wiki.debian.org/Icedove#Debugging_Icedove_Activity If you don't write the output to a log file (just skip the part 'NSPR_LOG_FILE=~/*.log') you will probaly see why Icedove is already running.
