I have confimed that this bug applies to mksh as well as ksh, so I wonder what you think about it. That is in both the 'fc' command defaults to using ed which does not by default exist. At the very least both packages ought to have a 'Suggests: ed' clause though I think that is neither adequate nor appropriate since only nobody knows how to use ed nowadays.
I note that mksh seems to use FCEDIT to choose the editor and ksh first tries HISTEDIT and then FCEDIT. Using the /etc/profile.d/ system seems like one option to me.
