Would it be then possible to fix the lib? The general idea seems ok
AFAIK, but the implementation is buggy / outdate (over a year looking at
bug reports).

If authors of oryginal lib do not wish to continue work perhaps someone
else will?

IMHO this bug should be changed to grave to warn Debian users to not
install the lib:
1) works only partially
2) stops valid program from working
3) also the /etc/libsafe.exclude seem to not work so 2) can not be fixed
by user. Installing the lib _will_ brake more or less entire system
apprently.
